The textbook provides students with a coherent understanding of energy, matter and their interrelationship. It focuses on investigating natural phenomena and then applying patterns, models (including mathematical ones), principles, theories and laws to explain physical behaviour. It covers five themes namely, Measurements, Newtonian Mechanics, Thermal Physics, Waves and Electricity and Magnetism.
The textbook aims to establish a solid foundation of scientific knowledge in students, and to develop in them the relevant skills of inquiry needed to better understand and apply physics concepts and principles in everyday life. It meets not only the examination needs of students, but also inculcates in them a sense of appreciation for science and scientific inquiry as important tools in helping them explore their natural and physical world.
The workbook provides a rigorous exercise for students in preparation for the examinations. It complements the textbooks by providing a variety of exercises for reinforcement of concepts and principles learnt in the textbooks.
The practical workbook aims to develop science process skills necessary for scientific exploration and investigation. These skills are introduced progressively and systematically in a variety of contexts. They include the skills of implementing, analysing and planning. With consistent practice and experimentation, students will be able to master the skills of scientific investigations. In addition, they will gain a better understanding to key physics principles and concepts.
